The
Information Technology and Infrastructure library

Responding to the growing dependence on
Information Technology, the UK Government's CCAT developed a set of
recommendations in the 1980s.
The names ITIL® and due to these
recommendations it was recognized that without standard practices,
government agencies and private sector contracts were independently
creating their own IT management practices.
About the ITIL® Certification Management Board
The ITIL® Certification is managed by the ITIL® Certification Management
Board (ICMB). Members of Board include the representatives from UK
office of Government Commerce, APM Group (APMG), The Stationery office
(TSO, Examination Institutes, V3 Examination panels and the IT Services
Management Forum International as the recognized user group.
The Certification
The Certification scheme differs between the ITIL® V2 and ITIL® V3 and
bridge examinations owners’ transfer to the program new between. The
subject areas have been grouped into variety of combination which covers
the capability elements and the ITIL® Service Management Practices and
are organized into four levels of qualification within the scheme:
1) Certifications as Foundation
2) Intermediate
3) Expert
4) Master
The ITIL® V3 scheme's purpose is to ensure that relevant and timely
certifications are available to support the learning requirements of the
individuals and organizations related to ITIL® Service Management
Practices (ISMP). The ITIL® V3 Certification provides a modular
approach.
The modular and tiered structure of the qualification not only offers
the candidates the flexibility in relating to the different disciplines
but also makes it more achievable and accessible A credit value is
assigned for each level towards the advance level of qualifications. A
minimum of 22 credits are required to achieve the ITIL® Expert Level
qualification. Thus on the successful completion of the module the
candidate is rewarded with number of Credits as well as the
certification held from previous level of ITIL®.
